These words from the “Declaration of Independence”" are timeless and priceless: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, That among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The first line, “We hold the following truths to be self evident,” tells us that the facts we are about to state are so true they don’t have to be explained, rationalized, or justified. They just ARE. Just like the sun rises and sets each day, just like frozen water is cold, and boiling water is hot. These are not only undeniable facts, but also obvious to anyone who considers them.
“All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” All people are not born equal. Some are born poor, or dis-formed, or retarded, or into unfortunate circumstances. But, all people ARE created with certain “unalienable rights.” Rights that no man or women, no matter how rich, how beautiful, how smart, or how fortunate they are can they ever take away from another person. To all those fortunate sons, billionaires, intellectuals, religious fanatics and self proclaimed atheists and agnostics: No matter what you say, or do, you can never change this fact.
“Among these (rights) are Life.” No person has the right to take away the life of another person. Not for stealing a loaf of bread, or falling in love with the wrong person, or choosing the wrong religion. Never.
“(Among these rights are) Liberty.” Freedom: You’re free to make your own choices in your life, AS LONG AS in the process your are not denying others from their “unalienable rights.” This means YOU MAY NOT make choices that would deny someone else from their “Life.” YOU MAY NOT make choices that would deny someone else their other “unalienable rights” including “Liberty” and the “Pursuit of Happiness.”
“(Among these rights is the) Pursuit of Happiness.” You’re free to pursue your own happiness, AS LONG AS in the process your are not denying others from their “unalienable rights.” This means YOU MAY NOT pursue happiness if that means you will deny someone from of their “Life” or their “Liberty.” So do your own thing, and be your own person, just don’t stop others from doing their own thing, and don’t stop others from being their own persons. Be you, but be strong enough to let others be themselves too.
“All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Words to live by. Go for it! Well, AS LONG AS you don’t stops others from “going for it” as well.
